The Story

Declan
I'm destined to become the next CEO of my family's media empire.
The only problem? My grandfather's inheritance clause.
Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteered for the job.
Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem.
But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract.
Caring about Iris was never part of the deal.
Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.

Iris
My plan to marry Declan was simple in theory.
Move in together. Throw a wedding. Have a baby.
We set rules to prevent any kind of issues.
Ones that were never meant to be broken, no matter how much Declan tempts me.
But what happens when our fake relationship bleeds into our real one?
Falling in love was never an option.
At least not for me.

Really short review

4.5/5 stars

Just like in The Fine Print, Declan's character development feels fast-paced in the middle of the book. Other than that, it’s a very enjoyable read—great romance and an interesting story.

Extended review

I read this book in six days, but without work and other responsibilities, I probably would have finished it in about two to three days. I was really looking forward to this book because I enjoyed The Fine Print, the first book in Lauren Asher's standalone series (there’s also a review for that one on my blog!).

Now, let's get into it:

As I mentioned, I was excited about this book, and it did not disappoint. Like The Fine Print, the two main characters, Declan and Iris, couldn’t be more different, which plays perfectly into the Grumpy/Sunshine trope. I enjoyed how their relationship developed and how the fake marriage turned into something real. Despite incorporating many classic romance tropes, the story didn’t feel overdone or like something I’d read a thousand times before (and I’ve definitely read many, many books with similar themes!).

However, just like in The Fine Print, I wasn’t a fan of how quickly Declan’s character development happened in the middle of the book. It felt rushed and, therefore, not very realistic. While Iris also undergoes some personal growth, her transformation felt more natural compared to Declan’s.

Despite this, I really enjoyed the book, and it made me curious about the next one, Final Offer, especially since we’ve already been introduced to the third brother.

If you liked The Fine Print and want to learn more about Declan’s story, then Terms and Conditions is worth the read. If you haven’t read the first book, I’d recommend starting there, but since this series consists of standalones, you can also jump right into Terms and Conditions without missing anything important. That’s a nice touch by Lauren Asher.

I definitely recommend reading Terms and Conditions!
