The story

One touch is all it takes. One touch, and Juliette Ferrars can leave a fully grown man gasping for air. One touch, and she can kill.

No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon.

Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had.

Really Short Review

5/5 stars

Loved the writing style! Cool story and unlike anything I’ve read so far. Could not put the book down.

Extended Review

I thoroughly enjoyed Shatter Me and read it within three days. I had heard so much about it on BookTok beforehand and feared it might not live up to the hype, but wow—was I wrong.

Now, let's get into it:

I started the book, and immediately after one page, I was hooked. As mentioned before, I could not put it down. From beginning to end, I devoured this book. I hadn’t had much experience with fantasy/sci-fi and didn’t know what to expect or if I would like it. But this book surprised me with its gripping writing and the depth of its story. I remember thinking, "Tahereh Mafi is a genius," after finishing Shatter Me because her writing style truly is out of this world. She has a way of pulling you into the story, making you feel the characters' emotions as if you were experiencing them yourself.

But enough about the writing.

The story itself is also very unique and interesting. Besides being captivated by the writing, I also found myself eager to learn more about Juliette and how she ended up in such an agonizing situation. I also enjoyed the romance aspects of this book and how they were woven into the fantasy elements—complementing the story rather than overpowering it. Usually, I enjoy the romance in a book more than the plot surrounding it, but in this case, both aspects felt equally important, merging into a story truly worth reading.

Therefore, I would definitely recommend reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi!
